About
Design Hive Workshops for Kids & Camps offers hands-on STEAM activities that include science, technology, engineering, arts, crafts, and design projects. Kids can take part in options such as lego robotics, coding & game design, digital music creation, creative engineering, epoxy resin design, Mini House Workshop, LED Wand Workshop, sneaker design, marbling & mosaics, 2D design with Glowforge, and fiber and paper crafts like macrame, punch needle, hand-stitching, weaving, felting, and shibori. The program also runs special and seasonal events, holiday-related events, special parties, STEAM day camps, a Mini Makers workshop, weekend craft classes, weekend maker studio, jewelry making, candle making, soap making, an after school STEAM lab, and the Tween Craft Collective.

Design Hive Workshops for Kids & Camps is part of Design Hive, a process-based art and technology studio that focuses on dynamic experiential learning in an inclusive environment. Design Hive was founded by two veteran Los Angeles teachers, Lauren Arshad and Jennifer Cefaly. Lauren Arshad has over a decade of experience in science and technology education, holds a degree in Philosophy from UC Santa Barbara, earned a Masters in Teaching, and has worked as Educational Director at a major Los Angeles art museum and as Lead Educator and Curriculum Developer for an education startup in Berlin, Germany. Jennifer Cefaly has degrees in Art, Art History, and Educational Technology, holds a Masters in Elementary Education from Loyola Marymount University specializing in Literacy & Language Arts, has 20 years of experience as a classroom teacher and curriculum development expert, has developed, implemented, and taught STEAM curricula in independent schools across Los Angeles, and sits on the Advisory Board at the Argo Navis School as chair of the Community Outreach Committee.
According to its mission statement, Design Hive is committed to supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion in STEAM and Maker Education and emphasizes process-based art and technology. The organization states that it creates unique learning experiences in both formal and informal learning environments with a diverse team of educators, artists, engineers, and lifelong tinkerers. Design Hive collaborates on museum installations, develops school curriculum, organizes corporate events, and hosts summer camps in its Los Angeles studio, and notes that the Tween Craft Collective was created out of a commitment to creating a space that respects and nurtures developmental and social needs.
