LMU Pre-College Summer Programs – Journalism Workshop is a two-week, non-credit course where students analyze and discuss examples of current and historical journalism. During the workshop, students read, watch, and listen to a variety of contemporaneous journalism, debate journalism ethics, meet, talk to, and ask questions of professional journalists, and do their own reporting both on-campus and off-campus during class field trips. The class focuses on journalism that covers topics from politics to sports to entertainment to fashion, and students visit with Los Angeles area journalists and media.

• Price: Application Fee: $65; 2026 Program Cost: $6,500; The program cost includes: Tuition for two-week, non-credit course; Housing and meals for two weeks; Course materials; Use of campus recreation facilities; Class field trips; Two weekend social trips off campus

The program states that there can be no democracy without journalism, noting that freedom of the press is enshrined in the First Amendment. LMU's Pre-College Summer Programs have been named among the nation’s best for 2025, with top rankings for their engineering and entrepreneurship experiences. The journalism workshop includes visits with Los Angeles area journalists and media, and students gain an important understanding of the journalism industry while learning best practices in producing written stories, photojournalism, and podcast news. The class is open to rising high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors, and limited space remains for 2026 with applications reviewed on a rolling basis until space fills.
