Kid Row offers band-based music programs where students learn and perform songs on guitar, bass, keys, drums, and vocals. Depending on the program, students learn and perform two songs over a week-long intensive, try different instruments for each song, and take part in musical activities, games, and songs in age-appropriate classes. Some Kid Row programs include writing and performing an original song in a band setting, learning songwriting techniques, learning how to record using computer software, and ending with a full-on rock show or live performance of their track for friends and family.
• Ages: 0–18 years old
• Schedule: Week-long Kid Row Camp and Songwriting & Recording camp run Monday–Friday, generally 9am–3pm, with Little-Kid Row Camp running Monday–Friday 9am–12pm and options for early drop-off and extended day; ongoing programs include weekly in-studio rehearsals and weekly private lessons.
• Price: $659 or $419 for a full week of camp depending on the camp, with optional early drop-off and extended day add-ons, monthly tuition options for ongoing band programs, and tiered pricing for weekly private lessons and one-off lessons.
Kid Row also offers introductory group lessons that teach basic musical principles through music and movement, including dancing, singing, and headbanging, as well as one-on-one music lessons with an instructor. Students are put into bands seasonally and learn current songs they love along with rock ’n’ roll classics, write original songs, and record their own music, with each season ending in a full-on rock show rather than a recital. A One-Time Rock Star-ter Pack is available and includes a custom Kid Row t-shirt and a seasonal show poster, and a personal iPad is recommended for the Songwriting & Recording camp.
Kid Row is lead and founded by professional musicians Jana and Justin Bocchieri. Jana Bocchieri is a music instructor, singer/songwriter, professional vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, and Berklee College of Music graduate whose work includes backing vocals on Dance Moms and live performances with songwriter Bonnie McKee for KISS FM's Jingle Ball tour, as well as composition for Minds of MountainFilm featuring Morgan Spurlock. Justin Bocchieri is a Berklee College of Music graduate and lead singer/songwriter of the alternative rock band Paper Pilots, with features including World Cafe: Next Artist, licenses on HBO, and support dates with OKGO, and he brings over a decade of music teaching experience to Kid Row. The Kid Row mission states that it is the antithesis of the boring piano lesson where a student is taught “Frère Jacques” but wants to learn Nirvana, and that students are taught the songs they love coupled with rock ’n’ roll classics to give a positive and relatable first experience playing music with friends and exposure to the musical history that influenced their current favorites.
