About
The Nine O’Clock Players Theatre for Children Program features live musical theatre based on classic children’s literature and a Magical Theatre Experience that includes video performances, educational videos, and tutorials. Children can see behind-the-scenes information on costumes, makeup, acting, choreography, set design, props, sound, lighting, and writing plays. The program also offers field trips to the theatre.
• Ages: 5–12 years old
• Schedule: Field trip options in Spring 2026 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from February 19 to March 26, 10:30–11:45 AM, and on Sundays March 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29 at 2:00 PM
• Price: Field trips to the theatre, at no or low cost, are provided to school children and families; Theatre rental rates start at $300 per hour; Non-profit discounts available
The Nine O’Clock Players Theatre for Children Program was founded in 1929 and has presented 94 award-winning productions at no or low cost to children. Its mission for 94 years has been to introduce children to live performance, literature, and music through theatre. The program annually hosts over 7,000 children from the Los Angeles area, including school children and families, particularly low-income and special needs students who might not otherwise be exposed to live theatre. The Nine O’Clock Players Auxiliary produces classic children’s literature as live musical theatre in a historic 330-seat theatre with a newly renovated 330-seat auditorium, state-of-the art technical equipment, four dressing rooms, a green room, a backstage kitchen, and an outdoor patio. The Magical Theatre Experience offers free videos with interactive segments and is described as a fun and educational virtual learning experience for kids, parents, and educators.
