Assistance League Theatre / Theatre for Children, 1367 North St. Andrews Place, Los Angeles, CA 90028
About
The Nine O’Clock Players Theatre for Children Program features live musical theatre based on classic children’s literature and also offers video performances and educational videos. Children can watch tutorials that share behind-the-scenes information on costumes, makeup, acting, choreography, set design, props, sound, lighting, and writing plays, along with interactive video segments that prompt them to think critically about what they see. The program also includes field trips to the theatre for in-person performances.
• Schedule: Willy Wonka in Spring 2026 with Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday performances from February 19 to March 26, 10:30–11:45 AM, and Sunday performances on March 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29 at 2:00 PM
• Price: Field trips to the theatre, at no or low cost, are provided to school children and families; rates start at $300 per hour for theatre rental, with non-profit discounts available
The Nine O’Clock Players Auxiliary produces the Theatre for Children Program as live musical theatre in a historic 330-seat Assistance League Theater with a newly renovated auditorium, state-of-the art technical equipment, four dressing rooms, a green room, a backstage kitchen, and an outdoor patio. The program provides two full musical productions of classic children’s literature with life lessons adapted for children today and annually hosts over 7,000 children from the Los Angeles area. Field trips to the theatre at no or low cost are offered to school children and families, particularly low-income and special needs students who might not otherwise be exposed to live theatre.
Founded in 1929, the program is described as one of the oldest continuously performing children's theaters in the United States. Its mission for 94 years has been to introduce children to live performance, literature, and music through theatre, and it has presented award-winning productions at no or low cost to children for 92 years.
