Silver Lake Ballet School offers ballet, pre-pointe, pointe, creative dance, modern, contemporary, intermediate ballet, beginner pointe, and mixed level classes. Helen teaches ballet, pre-pointe, pointe, and creative dance to students from the ages of 3 through adult. The school also holds adult mixed level and beginner pointe classes, as well as intermediate ballet classes.
• Ages: 3–18 years old
• Schedule: Pre-school summer session from July 10 to July 31, and a Summer/Fall session from August 24 to December 18, with no classes on Labor Day and during the week of Thanksgiving
• Price: $125 for the pre-school summer session; $22 per class; $15 for Beginner Pointe
Kids’ classes meet on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at set times in the afternoon, and adult classes meet on Wednesday and Friday mornings. On Wednesdays there are no classes on July 15, 22, 29 and August 5, with classes resuming on August 12, and on Fridays there are no classes on July 17, 24, 31, with classes resuming on August 7. Every year, Silver Lake Ballet School puts on a show involving over a hundred of the school’s students, and the Silverlake Ballet Shop offers T-shirts, water bottles, totes, and other items.
Teacher/Owner Helen Nasillski was trained at the Royal Academy of Dance in London, is an Associate Member of the Society of Teachers of Dancing, completed a three-year teacher training at the Stella Mann Academy of Dance with honours in Ballet, National and Modern Dance, and danced professionally in companies in Scotland, Portugal, Syria, South Korea, and England. She taught at Westside Academy and the Stanley Holden Dance Center before establishing Silver Lake Ballet School, which has become a much respected part of the Silver Lake/Los Feliz community. Teacher Madison Davis is a dancer and theatre artist who has performed in venues throughout California and trained at Vonder Haar Center for the Performing Arts, PCPA Conservatory ’19, and ASU ’25. Teacher Renée Donovan is a working dancer in Los Angeles who has studied ballet and modern dance at NYU Tisch School of the Arts and Stanford University.
