• Ages: 5–18 years old

Woodcraft Rangers was established in Los Angeles in 1922 and describes itself as Southern California’s premier provider of expanded learning with a century of results-driven outcomes. The organization’s mission is “Guiding young people as they explore pathways to purposeful lives.” All programs take place on-site at schools throughout greater Los Angeles County, and Woodcraft Rangers is in good standing with all school district partners and with all state and government agencies whose grants it manages.

Woodcraft Rangers has a multi-faceted child protection framework, meets the highest insurance requirements, conducts audits beyond legal requirements with a required practice of regular rotation of partners, and has never had an audit finding on any state or federal grants or in annual financial audits, including single federal audits. Its financials are audited by Windes, and a 27-member board reviews financials quarterly with additional oversight by a finance and independent audit committee. Testimonials from teachers, school administrators, and high school students describe Woodcraft Rangers as an important presence on campus, note its role in students’ free time after school, and share individual student experiences of using the program as a safe space, a place to do homework or spend time with friends, and a way to test themselves and improve as a person.

The leadership and governance of Woodcraft Rangers include a board with members such as Eric Derrington (President), Que-Lam Huynh (Vice-President), Francisco Lozano (Vice President), Carlos Gutierrez (Secretary), Ivy Draughan (Treasurer), and Celeste Ahl (Immediate Past President), along with other professionals from education, finance, law, community leadership, and industry. The executive and senior leadership team includes CEO Julee Brooks, Chief Financial Officer Darlington Ahaiwe, Chief Program Officer Danny Salas, Chief Operating Officer Celina Salinas, Chief of Staff Andrés De La Peza, and senior directors overseeing learning and development, programs, student services, outdoor education and Camp Woodcraft, marketing and communications, education partnerships, development, and human resources. Additional directors oversee areas such as curriculum, e-learning, academic support, people operations and implementation, inclusion, systems and IT, benefits and payroll, specialty programs, strategic operations, program integration, older youth, and college and career pathways.
