Writing and Performance Programs for Emerging Professionals, Young Adults and Teens offers writing and performance programs. These programs are part of the artistic development offerings at Skylight Theatre Company, alongside SkyLab, the INKubator Play Reading Series, and LAb Works. New plays begin at Skylight Theatre Company, and works premiering there have gone on to be performed Off-Broadway, in cities across the country, and internationally.

The mission of Skylight Theatre Company is to seek, champion, develop and produce new works, welcome and empower the people who create them, introduce plays new to Los Angeles, and engage a diverse community of theatergoers. The company has presented over 100 world premiere plays and has hosted more than 2,500 artists in over 750 productions, workshops, readings, and classes. Its artistic development programs include writing and performance programs for emerging professionals, young adults and teens, as well as SkyLab, the INKubator Play Reading Series, and LAb Works. Diversity, equity and inclusion are embedded in the fabric of Skylight Theatre Company, which engages a diverse community of theatergoers and embraces diversity and the local community.

Cameron Watson is the artistic director of Skylight Theatre Company and is a multiple award-winning theatrical director and filmmaker, and a recipient of the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award for Distinguished Achievement in Directing. Producing artistic director Gary Grossman led the company for 40 years. Skylight Theatre Company has been recognized as a “powerhouse of new play development” by Dramatist Magazine and has received multiple honors, including 2020 Ovation Awards for Best Book/Original Musical and Best Lyrics and Musical/Original Musical for the 2019 world premiere of BRONCO BILLY – THE MUSICAL. The company also received three 2018 Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Awards for ROTTERDAM (Best Production, tying with HAMILTON, Playwriting for Jon Brittain, and Lead Actress for Ashley Romans), two 2018 Stage Raw Awards (Production of the Year and Lead Performance), and the Steinberg National Theatre Critics Citation for DONTRELL, WHO KISSED THE SEA by Nathan Alan Davis.

Charles McNulty of the Los Angeles Times wrote that stage director Cameron Watson “has one of the best batting averages in town” and described Skylight Theatre Company as an incubator of new work that embraces diversity and the local community. Discover Hollywood wrote that Skylight Theatre Company “brings the human experience in all its shapes and forms to life the way only the Skylight Theatre can produce.”
