In 2010, Young Ninjas was created. The program uses a rotating, theme-based structure where enrichment classes and sessions combine martial arts moves, training games, and etiquette, and each session gives students a new color headband based on an animal theme along with a personalized Certificate of Achievement tied to that theme. Young Ninjas offers enrichment classes, birthday parties with ninja skills, drills, challenges, martial arts and sports games, and prizes, as well as customizable workshops for camps, schools, or special events, and brings the dojo to the customer’s location.

Instructors are called “Sensei,” which is Japanese for teacher, and they complete a comprehensive training process that includes teaching on site with senior Young Ninjas instructors for up to 8 weeks or more before being promoted to Sensei, followed by ongoing training. Instructors come from backgrounds such as martial artists, actors, students, and athletes, all with experience working with kids and an interest in promoting an active lifestyle through exercise. All Young Ninjas instructors are background checked on a federal, state, and local level, and all senseis are fully COVID vaccinated and have current TB, T-Dap, and MMR, along with full background checks prior to being hired. Young Ninjas is fully insured. Senseis go to the child’s school and handle gathering and returning children to their classroom.

Senseis arrive each week with all equipment needed to run martial arts classes at the customer’s location, and all equipment is child friendly and age-appropriate. Young Ninjas offers t-shirts for purchase for an additional $30.

Parent testimonials describe kids participating in obstacle courses, dodgeball, ninja dodgeball, and fun games, with some parents joining in activities like dodgeball on the grass. Parents report kids laughing, running around, learning ninja moves, counting in multiple languages, and making promises to try their best, listen, and treat others with respect, and describe Sensei teachers as energetic, engaging, and able to approach each child according to their temperament. Several parents mention that Young Ninjas facilitated birthday parties, entertained groups of children ages 4–6, and kept their attention for an entire hour. Senseis describe what they love about Young Ninjas as including seeing students build confidence, teamwork, patience, and new skills each week, watching children accomplish challenging new tasks, playing super fun games, and bringing martial arts experience into classes while having fun with students.
