About
APJCC Preschool offers a curiosity-driven curriculum where children learn through play, inquiry, and emergent learning. Kids explore and develop new skills in an environment built for collaborative learning, with interactive activities that challenge their physical abilities and increase their feeling of independence. The program includes toddler, 2–3 year-old, 3–4 year-old, and TK (4–5 year-old) groups, and welcomes parents, grandparents, siblings, and other relatives to visit the classroom and share family skills, interests, and traditions with the class.
• Ages: 1–5 years old
• Schedule: Open Monday–Friday with hours from 6:00am–8:00pm, and Saturday–Sunday from 7:00am–3:30pm
The APJCC Preschool learning program focuses on what interests each child most and encourages learning through play, with activities that prepare children before they enter primary school. The program states that it provides a safe and nourishing environment under the supervision of teachers, supports emotional development, and aims to offer an environment where children can grow freely and learn to express themselves.
The leadership team includes Senior Director of Preschool, Youth, & Family Engagement Cyndi Sherman; Inclusion Specialist Henrietta Garcia; and Early Childhood Office Manager Rachel Rose. Cyndi has been part of the APJCC Preschool faculty since 1989 and has led the team as Early Childhood Director since 2003, and she is described as passionate about inclusion in the early childhood setting. Henrietta has worked in the special needs field for 8 years and values close partnerships with teachers, children, parents, and specialists to help each child reach their full potential. Rachel began as a teacher at APJCC Preschool in 1993, returned in 2013 as part of the admin team, and brings early childhood knowledge and organizational support that keeps the program running smoothly.
The program describes itself as an inclusive community with flexible scheduling and after school enrichments, and notes that its community of teachers supports parents’ parenting journey with their experience and knowledge of child development.
