Building Blocks Cooperative Preschool

Building Blocks Cooperative Preschool is a high quality cooperative preschool established by and for the Santa Cruz Mountain community. Children at Building Blocks Cooperative Preschool learn through discovery and child-led play in an atmosphere of mutual respect and wonder. The program follows a traditional cooperative model that has evolved so that classroom participation and larger roles in running the business are not mandatory, with flexible co-oping options for family participation and Maintenance Days and a pioneering drop-off co-op model.

Building Blocks Cooperative Preschool was established in 1991 for the Santa Cruz Mountain community. The program’s mission is to provide a welcoming and nurturing environment where children, their families, and their teachers build community through play. Programming continues to be supported by parent involvement and is facilitated by teachers trained in early childhood education. The director and lead teacher is Nicole Gomez, and prospective families must tour the campus with her. Building Blocks Cooperative Preschool is a program of the Loma Prieta Community Foundation and is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit, and it is fully licensed under the California Department of Social Services Community Care Licensing Division, Facility Number 434417154. The co-op community is encouraged to build connections with families through attendance of events and opportunities in the classroom. Phase I of a new inclusive playground project is complete, and the program is fundraising for Phase II, a new play structure with a goal of $150,000.
