Shir Hadash describes itself as an evolving, vibrant, growing Reform Jewish congregation whose name, “Shir Hadash,” means “New Song” and reflects a strong tradition of joining together through music and song. The Hebrew program uses a refreshed model that introduces Hebrew through prayer and Jewish culture, and preparation for each student’s B'nai Mitzvah is individualized and adapted based on the B'nai Mitzvah's learning needs. Shir Hadash states that it is an inclusive synagogue community dedicated to heightening life with prayer, joyous music, immersive learning, deep connections, and active social responsibility, and it is rooted in the heart of Silicon Valley, aspiring to elevate life with down-to-earth Judaism. The leadership team includes Cantor Devorah Felder-Levy, Rabbi Rafi Ellenson, Rabbi Emerita Melanie Aron, Executive Director Shanda Witkin, Preschool Director Mercedes Mendoza, Preschool Administrator Allison Turner, and Building Supervisor Diego Mendoza. Shir Hadash describes its community involvement as aspiring to create an “I see you” and “We care for each other” culture and to challenge apathy in a world often silent on injustice by using its collective strength to forge paths of compassion and healing.
