About
The Marvegos Fine Art School offers drawing, painting, wood sculpture, clay, mixed media, and printmaking. Week-long art camps and a one-day-per-week Summer Session focus on these types of artmaking projects.
• Ages: 4½–18 years old
• Schedule: Week-long art camps with full-day and half-day options, plus a Summer Session that meets one day per week; extended care is available as an add-on.
• Price: A $150 non-refundable deposit is required to secure a birthday party reservation; a 10% discount is available on week-long camp and class registrations made one month or more prior to the start of the program; no discounts on extended care or the one-day-per-week Summer Session; for cancellations made after May 1, a $50 fee is charged; requests to change registrations or transfer made within two weeks of the start date incur a $25 fee.
Summer art programs at The Marvegos Fine Art School include art for preschoolers, fine art camps, teen camps, and classes for students ages 4½–18. All camps have a student-to-instructor ratio of no more than 6:1, and some camps may include up to 12 students with two instructors. Each week of camp follows a specific theme, such as Curious Creatives, Visionary Viewpoints, Myth and Legend, and Natural Encounters. Teen Camp projects use more complex materials, techniques, and challenges, and the Summer Session one-day-per-week art classes offer students a similar experience to the school-year program.
Studios at The Marvegos Fine Art School can accommodate up to 20 art makers for kids’ birthday parties, which can be scheduled on weekends or some weekdays, depending on availability. A $150 non-refundable deposit is required to secure a birthday party reservation.
Parents provide snacks and lunch for Full Day Camp and Teen Camp, and parents provide snacks for Morning Camp and Afternoon Camp. Extended care is available as an add-on during 8–9am, 3–4pm, and 4–5pm for Full Day and Teen Camps; 8–9am and 12–1pm for Morning Camp; and 12–1pm and 4–5pm for Afternoon Camp. Extended care can be added up until the Thursday prior to the start of camp. All students must be fully potty trained, defined as being able to independently sit on and get off the toilet, manage clothing, use the toilet for urination and bowel movements, and practice proper hygiene such as wiping and hand-washing. Refunds are issued for any camp or class cancelled by The Marvegos.
The Marvegos Fine Art School states that it encourages creativity through art and that making one’s own choices within a framework is the essence of creative choice. Its approach to teaching fine art for children begins with the idea that everyone is creative and can be afraid of it or learn to use it with confidence.
One student says, “I like Marvegos because I can be myself, be free, have fun… and be creative. You don’t say draw a line here or draw a dot there. You let me make my own choices.” A parent named Chenchen says, “My son and daughter had a great time at Marvegos summer camp. They had been at the camp for three weeks and kept asking to go to Marvegos.” Another parent, Yiyi, says, “My son loves it. The teachers are not only great artists themselves, but have the abilities to engage young minds. I like their approach of letting the kids expand and experiment and yet teach some basic terms and art fundamentals.” A parent named Sarah says, “It was the highlight of my son’s week! We’ll be back for summer camp and school sessions again next year.” A 6-year-old named Skyler shares, “Roses are red, Waters in a pool. Vilites are blue, The teachers are so cool.” Another 6-year-old, Asya, says, “I love art class. Learning new ways to make colors, to paint. I like that I do nice stuff. I like the new ways we can make stuff. First I think of stuff in my imagination. If I like it I draw it.”
