About
Los Gatos National Junior Basketball offers basketball instruction and basketball competition. The program includes games against teams from Los Gatos and other Bay Area National Junior Basketball chapters for boys and girls in grades 3–8.
• Ages: 8–18 years old
Los Gatos National Junior Basketball is in its 40th year of serving the community through basketball. It is part of NJB, which is a developmental-competitive league, and Los Gatos NJB puts player development ahead of winning for both Divisional and All-Net teams. Divisional players are guaranteed at least two full periods of play per game. There is no playing time requirement for All-Net, but Los Gatos NJB All-Net teams will strive to give all players significant playing time. The program is committed to developing players who live in the neighborhoods of Los Gatos and Leigh High Schools and does not accept players from other public school boundaries simply for the sake of making teams better, but will accept All-Net players from outside those boundaries if there are not enough local players to form an All-Net team. It offers older students who are not playing for their high school teams the chance to play against similar teams from other Bay Area chapters, and this season it expects to have approximately 400 boys and girls participate in youth basketball programs.
Los Gatos National Junior Basketball notes several team achievements, including Boys 6th and 7th Grade All Net teams recognized as National Champions. Teams that qualified for Nationals include Girls 6th Grade All Stars coached by Anthony Robinson and Justine Kuehn and Boys 6th Grade All Stars coached by Dan Hoefer and Lucas Lovelace, both listed as Silicon Valley Runner Up. National Champion teams include Boys 4th Grade All Net coached by Mason Powell and Nathan Sanders, Boys 8th Grade D1 All-Star team coached by Balaji Venkat and Mike Ryken, and Boys 8th Grade All Net coached by Jack Beibel and Cristo Ortega. In the 2022–2023 winter season, 8th Grade Girls All Stars coached by Chris Hutchins and Al Guido were National Champions, and the Girls D1 Slam Dunk Champions were led by head coach Patrick Harr with assistant coaches Herb Cross and Brooks Allen. Additional 2022–2023 champions include Boys 6th Grade All Net as Open Gym Premier Champions coached by Toby Fisher and Arya Emarlou; Girls D2 Hot Shot Champions coached by Nick Nanez, Dan Freed, and Kasey Harnish; Boys D2 Full Court Champions coached by Mike Marchak, David Doctorow, and Mark Obenour; Girls D2 Full Court Champions coached by Anthony Robinson and Colin Feichtmeir; Boys D2 Hot Shot Champions coached by Brad Thomas and Patrick Schulkers; and Girls D3 Slam Dunk Champions with an undefeated season, led by head coach Justine Kuehn, assistant coaches Todd Mueller and Karina LaValley, and scorekeeper Bryan Larson.
