Malibu Makos Surf Club offers kids surf camps, including Malibu Surf Camp, Malibu Kids Surf Camp, Saturday surf camp, Surf Saturdays, and one-day surfing experiences. Malibu Makos Surf Club began in 1991 and describes itself as a Malibu surf tradition since 1991, with phrases such as “Surf-Safe-Fun Since ’91” and “Surfing Done Right Since 91′.” The program was started by Malibu Makos founder Tom Corliss, who has been a Malibu local for most of his life and is a former PE teacher and coach at Point Dume Elementary (now Malibu Elementary School) and Malibu High School. The staff includes an experienced team of certified ocean lifeguards, professional surf instructors, and dedicated watermen and women, including pro surfers, ocean lifeguards, teachers, surf educators, and experienced instructors who are CPR and First Aid certified. Malibu Makos Surf Club is the only licensed, permitted, and insured surf operator at Zuma Beach and is the only surf school licensed and permitted by the Los Angeles County Department of Beaches and Harbors to teach surf lessons in Malibu, and it is fully insured. For Malibu Kids Surf Camp, families can attend any day and choose any 5, 10, or 15 days, and can make up missed days at no charge. Surfboards and wetsuits are included for Kids Surf Camp, Premium Surf Sessions, and Private Surf Lessons, and all equipment is included for Surf Saturdays, so Malibu Makos provides all the gear needed for lessons. Transportation is available for Kids Surf Camp, and Malibu Makos Parking Passes are available at camp for Kids Surf Camp and are valid for 15 minutes on surf camp dates and hours.
