The Riekes Center states that its mission is to enhance individual students by helping them define and accomplish individual goals, build character, and learn transferable life skills through creative arts, athletic fitness, and nature awareness in an environment of non-judgment and mutual respect. The mission also states that the center offers its programs regardless of a student’s ability to pay or ability to perform, and that each person’s uniqueness and potential is celebrated. The center identifies its core values as Self Supervision, Honest Communication, and Sensitivity to Others, and states that all students, all goals, and all interests are equally important, with real world diversity and empathy encouraged.
One testimonial from a participant in the Nature Awareness program describes connecting with nature as a life-changing experience and mentions writing “The Budding Naturalist's Guide to the UC Santa Cruz Arboretum” with the goal of encouraging young people to connect with nature. Other testimonials describe experiences in areas such as videography and production, football training, volleyball preparation, fitness training, and piano lessons, with individuals naming specific programs like Nature Awareness, Acceleration, Pinnacle, and the Rise Up training program. A statement from Student Services at the Menlo Park City School District expresses appreciation for the Riekes Center’s work in the community and notes a positive impact on children of all ages.
