CreativeCave

CreativeCave is a Design Thinking Studio where kids take classes and workshops in animation, character development, stop motion, digital illustration, fashion, robotics, coding, art, visual identity, brand design, graphics, storyboards, concept designs, animations, illustrations, and web design. The program offers a MakerSpace Membership and keeps class sizes small, with a 6 to 1 student-to-teacher ratio in art, fashion, technology, and design courses. Its curriculum combines technology, design thinking, engineering, art, and teamwork in a space set up for students to create, collaborate, explore, test, experiment, and invent.

CreativeCave describes itself as a fun, safe and supportive place where school age kids can develop their creative potential through a mix of art, technology and project-based learning, using a design thinking methodology to explore possibilities, find creative solutions and solve complex problems through creativity and design. CreativeCave’s teachers all hold MFAs from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco and work as educators in the afternoon and as artists and designers in the morning. The studio is led by Mimia, an award-winning creative director, professor and speaker with over 15 years of experience creating visual stories, cinematography and characters at Pixar Animation Studios, Tippett Studio, and other studios, and she also teaches and mentors aspiring designers and animators at Academy of Art University. CreativeCave works with industry professionals from major studios in the development of its curriculum, and some of these professionals serve as mentors and teachers; its listed partners include Stanford Graduate School of Business and Angel Aid.
