About

Creative Roots Art Programs offers a wide range of hands-on options, including Art Explorations, Art Classes for Kids, and Seasonal Workshops with nature art, holiday projects, and family events. The program also offers Summer Art Camp, including a Summer Art Camp June 8–12, 2026, as well as special activities such as Paint Pouring, Pet Portraits, Pottery & Ceramics, Floral Arranging Demonstration, Women’s Abstract Workshops, Sourdough Workshops, Writing That Story (a nonfiction workshop), and a Publishing Workshop. Additional opportunities include an Artist’s Open Studio for self-directed creative time with support, Special Events like community art days, a free art project at Mission Viejo Night Market, and free after school art classes at a local elementary school for YMCA students.

Creative Roots Art Programs is part of a community arts and music conservatory and a Mission Viejo-based music and art studio that offers music and art classes for all ages. The program includes a Summer Art Camp with a jungle-themed week that features creativity, exploration, and hands-on activities. The mission of Creative Roots states that everyone is creative and that creativity is essential for a healthy, joyful life.

The leadership team includes Creative Roots Director Kjersten Damron (Piano + Voice) and Visual Arts Coordinator and Instructor Harvest Riggio. Staff credentials include degrees and training in music, art, and related fields: Kjersten Damron holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Business from Central Washington University; Harvest Riggio holds a bachelor’s degree from Azusa Pacific University in Sociology and Art and a certificate from Brandman University in Art 4 Healing; Traci Minor has a Master’s in Music from USC, is Suzuki trained, and has over 30 years of teaching experience in private and group settings and 20 years of playing experience in the greater LA area; Karen Deaner holds a bachelor’s degree in Music Therapy and cello from the University of the Pacific, Conservatory of Music; Emily Valenzuela holds degrees from Baylor University, Concordia University Irvine, and Saddleback College; and Cayden Walters graduated from Chapman University Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Music in Viola Performance and a minor in mathematics and statistical analysis.

Community involvement includes hosting a Summer Art Camp in partnership with Presbyterian Church of the Master (PCOM), community art days, a free art project at Mission Viejo Night Market, and free after school art classes at a local elementary school for YMCA students. Parent and student feedback includes comments such as an adult art class participant describing the class as “so helpful” and “a wonderful creative outlet,” and an Art Camp parent describing Art Camp at Creative Roots as the highlight of their summer, noting the staff and variety of projects.
