About
Rising Tide Swim offers survival swim lessons, swimming lessons, and ISR (Infant Swim Resource) survival swimming lessons. The program uses research-based methods that integrate sensorimotor learning, behavioral approaches, emotional wellbeing, and the developmental readiness of each child. Each session is student-centered and designed so that every swimmer is seen, supported, and celebrated in their progress.
• Ages: 6 months–18 years old
• Schedule: Lessons are offered in six-week sessions, with 10-minute lessons a day, five days a week
Rising Tide Swim offers survival swim lessons for all ages 6 months and older, including adults, and includes students with diverse abilities. Lessons start as early as 6 months and continue through adulthood, with each session thoughtfully structured to meet swimmers where they are while holding them to a high standard of success. The program focuses on life-saving water safety skills as a gateway to greater confidence, independence, and opportunity in life, and emphasizes a partnership with families so swimmers and their families feel safe, supported, and empowered around water.
The program is led by owner and instructor Desiree Choy. Her background is in education and psychology, with a Bachelor's degree from UCLA in Psychology and Education and a Master's degree in Education and a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from UC Santa Cruz. She is also a Breathe For Change certified 200-hour yoga instructor and social emotional educator.
Rising Tide Swim’s mission is stated as “Not one more child drowns.” The program states that drowning is preventable and that at Rising Tide Swim, everyone deserves to have life saving water safe skills, with the phrase “THE SOONER, THE SAFER!” ISR (Infant Swim Resource), which is used in the program, is described as “the global leader in the industry it pioneered in 1966: survival swimming lessons for infants and young children.”
The program notes that it is proud to work alongside community organizations through its community partnerships.
Parents describe their experiences with Rising Tide Swim and instructor Desiree in several testimonials. One parent, Alexandrea T., says she was comfortable trusting Desiree with her child from the start and notes that Desiree works with both the child and the parent to support water comfort and safety. Another parent, Misty G., calls Desiree “a gem of an educator” and says she saw her two children gain life saving skills and that her children continue to ask to swim with Ms. Desiree after their session ended. A parent named Vaishu M. states that Ms. Desiree’s dedication, expertise, and passion for teaching made a significant impact on swimming skills and enjoyment in the water for both the parent and both children. Another parent, Shaden B., shares that her 18-month-old can swim because of Desiree’s program and that, as a single mom, she feels more at ease around bodies of water knowing her child has gained water safety skills.
