Adventure Day Camp offers a wide range of activities, including Horseback Riding, Tennis, Archery, Boating, Swimming, Mountain Biking, Rock Climbing, Arts and Crafts, Skateboarding, Woodworking, Soccer, Basketball, Kickball, GA GA Ball, Tag Games, Relay Races, Gardening, Nature Hikes, Nature Crafts, Scootering, Big Wheels, Slackline, and water play with water balloons, sprinklers, water blasters, and a giant blow up water slide. Campers also take part in Drama, Performing Arts, Music, Weekly Dress-Up Days, Lip Sync performances, Staff Follies, Talent Shows, the Camp Play, Kayaking, Canoeing, an Overnight Camping Trip, Science Club, and Imagination Playground.

• Schedule: Three-week sessions with a fairly structured program during weeks 1 and 2, and all activities offered as choice options each afternoon in week 3
Adventure Day Camp is a traditional summer day camp that offers small group sizes, personal attention to each child, a wide array of activities, and three-week sessions that include both group and individual activities. The program includes choice programming in week 3 of each session, an Overnight Camping Trip held at Rancho Laguna Park in Moraga that is included in tuition, and a Science Club each Wednesday morning. On campout days, the only program available is the campout itself, with the option for families to pick up their child after dinner or during campfire on the campout day; if a child does not attend the campout in any capacity, they must be picked up by 12:00 pm on the day of the campout and may be dropped off again after 11:30 am the next day. Bus transportation is available for those who do not live in or near Walnut Creek.
Adventure Day Camp has been owned and operated by the Welch family since 2000. Kevin and Sunshine Welch serve as Camp Directors/Owners and are actively involved in all aspects of the camp program, and together have over 50 years of summer camp experience. Sunshine Welch earned a B.S. in Recreation Administration from California State University, Chico, holds a state certificate in Recreational Therapy, and has worked extensively with adults and children with developmental, physical, and mental disabilities. Kevin Welch holds a B.A. in Business from Clark University and has been involved in summer camps for most of his life, from camper to director. Program Directors are a group of 6–7 highly qualified and skilled adults who oversee the daily program and are directly responsible for specific age ranges, and qualified Specialist Instructors have expertise in specific disciplines.
Each group of campers is led by Co-Camp Counselors who are 17 years or older and have extensive experience working with children. All staff are required to complete an extensive three-day training program, and most staff will be certified in First Aid and C.P.R. All swimming is fully supervised by Red Cross Certified Lifeguards, with lifeguards and camp counselors positioned in and around the pools. The camp’s mission states that it provides a welcoming, lively, safe, positive, and diverse environment for children ages 3–15, exposes campers to a variety of fun, exciting, and at times challenging activities, and centers on bonding and memories formed with fellow campers and staff, promoting group unity and a sense of “family” within groups and within the camp as a whole. The camp’s philosophy explains that the three-week session allows campers to participate in both group and individual activities at their own pace, that the camp group is the first place campers should feel at home, and that campers are exposed to all activities early in the session before focusing on the ones they enjoy most.
Community involvement includes visits for campers entering PreK–2nd grade to experience Miniature Horses at Angels For Minis Farm in Walnut Creek, and opportunities throughout the session to visit San Pablo Reservoir in Orinda for the Boating program. Unique features also include a Water Play area with multiple water-based activities and bus transportation for families who do not live in or near Walnut Creek.
