About
Project Surf Camp offers Surf Camp and Stand Up Paddle Boarding Camps that include surf instruction, paddle board instruction, and a variety of beach and aquatic activities. Camp participants take part in structured surf and paddle board sessions along with other organized activities on the water and sand. Siblings and family members are encouraged to participate alongside campers.
• Schedule: June 10, 2026 – July 11, 2026; camps are split into half day sessions of 4 hours, and participants may sign up for one or more days
• Price: Camp fees are $75 per participant per camp; the sibling/additional family member fee is $75, and all surfers (campers and siblings) are $75 each
Project Surf Camp is a 501(c)(3) charitable and educational nonprofit organization designed specifically for individuals with special needs. The organization’s mission is to educate individuals with special needs and to build self confidence, self-esteem, and self-efficacy through surf and paddle board instruction and beach and aquatic activities, while also focusing on social skills, physical fitness, stress reduction, and independence. The program focuses on specialist intervention, and camp participants receive consultation, feedback, and support from four paid specialists. Project Surf Camp states that it has the most experienced team of surf specialists in the country, backed by six master’s degrees focused in special education and recreation.
Because of a partnership with The City of Morro Bay and Morro Bay Parks and Recreation, Project Surf Camp runs its camps at a beach location hosted by the city. General questions about volunteer groups, private camps, sponsorships, and events are directed to John Taylor, Executive Director, at (805) 235-1157. Families are asked to arrive promptly at the scheduled start time so that wetsuit sizing and needs assessments can be conducted first.
