About
Project Surf Camp offers surf camp and stand up paddle boarding camps that include surf and paddle board instruction along with beach and aquatic activities. Campers take part in surfing and beach activities during structured camp sessions. Wetsuit sizing and needs assessments are conducted at the start of camp.
• Schedule: Camps are split into half day sessions of 4-hours.
• Price: Camp fees are $75 per participant per camp, and all surfers, including siblings and additional family members, are $75 each.
Project Surf Camp is a charitable organization designed to educate individuals with special needs, with outcomes achieved through surf and paddle board instruction and beach and aquatic activities. Camp participants receive consultation, feedback, and support from four paid specialists, and specialist intervention is described as leading surfers to foster greater independence, communication, and social skills. The program encourages siblings and family members to participate and limits exclusive group camps to a maximum of 12 campers. Camper fees are kept minimal, with about one quarter of the total annual budget coming from participant enrollment and the remainder funded through private solicitations, grants, fundraisers, and camp sponsorships. The staff includes an experienced team of surf specialists backed by six master’s degrees focused in special education and recreation. The organization states that its mission is to educate individuals with special needs and to build self confidence, self-esteem, and self-efficacy, while also providing opportunities to build social skills, improve physical fitness, develop healthy outlets for stress reduction, and foster independence.
