About
Coach Ken Soccer offers afterschool classes, indoor soccer, a recreational league, camps, and small-sided soccer in 1v1, 3v3, and 4v4 formats. Players work on speed dribbling, step-overs, passing, shooting, and agility that focuses on soccer movements forward, sideways, backward, and jumping. • Ages: 4–12 years old
Coach Ken Soccer is a recreational soccer program that teaches both technical and tactical skills through a progressive, ever-evolving curriculum that uses a wide variety of fun exercises and focuses on one skill per day. The program’s four core values are Consistency, Knowledge, Skills, and Advancement, and it emphasizes ball and body control, including receiving, controlling, passing, shooting, defending, dribbling fast, changing direction, and learning advanced moves and fakes. Classes include 25–30 minutes of ball skills with each player having a ball, 5–10 minutes of agility, about 10 minutes of 1v1, and finish with a 3v3 or 4v4 match for 10–15 minutes, with players divided into groups by age and ability.
The Rec League introduces kids to team soccer with consistent teams, teammates, rules, and ref-coaches, using a 4v4 or 5v5 game format where players rotate positions as goalie, defender, and attacker, and uniforms are given around week 3–4 once teams are established. Camps keep players involved in soccer during holiday breaks with enthusiastic coaching and age-appropriate skills, and are provided through Activity Hero, BYGA, or the City of Los Altos. For Coach Ken Soccer Afterschool Classes in Mountain View and Los Altos, registration is through Activityhero, and Palo Alto YDP and Palo Alto Afterschool Programs registrations are through BYGA, while City of Los Altos Classes and Camps include extra fees for non-residents.
Coach Ken is recognized for both his teaching ability and the joy he brings to the youth soccer experience. Coaches are trained to correctly teach soccer skills to different age-groups, understand how different ages and kids learn, and are experienced at quickly identifying each player’s strengths and weaknesses to create programs that address specific needs. The program guarantees that children will have the same professional coaches who know them personally, and thousands of young players and their families have participated in Coach Ken’s youth soccer programs in the Bay Area.
Coach Ken Soccer has a No Tolerance Policy for physical violence, verbal abuse, and spitting directed toward other players and coaches, with cancellation and refund for remaining classes if this occurs. For rain outs, parents are emailed at least one hour before class, and any canceled class is made up by extending the program one more week at the same time and place until all sessions are complete. For families looking for shinguards, soccer cleats, and other gear, Coach Ken Soccer recommends local Soccer Post stores in San Jose and San Carlos.
