About

Coach Ken Soccer offers youth soccer programs that include recreational soccer classes, afterschool soccer classes, indoor soccer, and small-sided Rec League team matches. Players take part in ball skills training, agility training, 1v1 soccer play, and 3v3 or 4v4 soccer matches, with Rec League games using 4v4 or 5v5 formats. The program also offers summer camps and holiday break soccer camps, as well as Palo Alto YDP and afterschool soccer programs and City of Los Altos soccer classes and camps.

• Schedule: Class structure includes 25–30 minutes of ball skills, 5–10 minutes of agility, about 10 minutes of 1v1 play, and 10–15 minutes of 3v3 or 4v4 matches

Coach Ken Soccer describes itself as a recreational soccer program that teaches both technical and tactical skills through a progressive and ever-evolving curriculum that uses a wide variety of fun exercises. The program lists four core values: Consistency, Knowledge, Skills, and Advancement. Players are divided into groups by age and ability, and the program is described as personalized and individualized to help each kid develop as a player. Class activities focus on good ball and body control, dribbling fast and changing direction, teaching advanced moves and fakes, and emphasizing decision-making and teamwork in soccer tactics. For players under 6 years old, there are no goalies except on shooting lesson day, and in Rec League, kids play small-sided matches on consistent teams with uniforms provided around weeks 3–4 once teams are established, and players rotate positions as goalie, defender, and attacker.

Coach Ken is recognized for both his teaching ability and the joy he brings to the youth soccer experience. Coaches are trained to correctly teach soccer skills to different age groups, understand how different ages and kids learn, and are experienced at quickly identifying each player’s strengths and weaknesses. The program states that children will have the same good, professional coaches who know them personally.

Coach Ken Soccer notes community involvement or affiliations with United Soccer Coaches, Los Altos Recreation, PASC, Activity Hero, US Soccer, and FIFA. The program has a No Tolerance Policy for physical violence, verbal abuse, and spitting directed toward other players and coaches. If a class is rained out, parents are emailed at least one hour before class, and any canceled class is made up by adding one more week at the same time and place until all sessions are complete. For families looking for shinguards, soccer cleats, and other soccer gear, the program recommends local soccer stores called Soccer Post.
