Whitlinger/Sarsfield Tennis – City of Palo Alto Tennis & Pickleball Classes offers group tennis classes, individual tennis lessons, and both adult and junior pickleball classes. Tennis class options include Terrific Tiny Tennis, Quickstart Tennis, Quickstart Advantage Tennis, Junior Novice Tennis, Junior Low Intermediate Tennis, Junior Intermediate Tennis, Adult Novice Tennis, Adult Low Intermediate Tennis, Adult Intermediate Tennis, and Advanced Players Tennis. The program also offers the book “Remarkable Recreation Tennis- A Definitive Guide for Players and Coaches,” which is available online at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and other outlets.

• Ages: 5–18 years old
• Schedule: Classes are offered on specific weekdays and Saturdays in multiple time slots, with different spring session date ranges such as 4/11–5/16, 4/13–4/29, 4/14–5/19, 4/16–5/21, 4/18–5/16, 4/14–4/30, 4/15–5/20, 5/11–6/1, and 5/12–5/28.
• Price: Director’s (Tom Sarsfield) hourly rate is $120 for one person, plus $10 more per hour for each additional person; Pro’s hourly rate is $95 for one player, plus $5 more per hour for each additional person, with a $5 per hour discount for three or more lessons paid in advance, and only checks payable to “Tom Sarsfield” are accepted.

Whitlinger/Sarsfield Tennis has been providing tennis classes and individual lessons for over 35 years. The program’s instructors are described as knowledgeable in the essential fundamentals of tennis and pickleball and share a “FUN FIRST” philosophy of teaching these sports. The program uses the phrase “Play the Stanford Way!” in its materials.

The leadership team includes Director and RSPA Elite Pro Tom Sarsfield, along with RSPA Pros Neil Da Silva, John Chan, and Hung Nguyen, and 10 & Under Specialist Lisa Sarsfield. Lisa Sarsfield is specifically described as a “10 & Under Specialist.” The program currently serves six Bay Area cities.

From 1989–2019, the Whitlinger Cup culminated the Junior League program for Intermediate and High Intermediate players, with Stanford University hosting the event from 1990–2016. The peak Whitlinger Cup year was 2008 with 149 players, with eight teams competing per year from 1990–2009, six teams from 2010–2014, and five teams from 2015–2017, and six different cities winning the Cup at least once.
