Camp Omni’s mission is to grow confidence, community, and kindness by fostering critical thinking, social-emotional learning, and joy in a safe, secular, outdoor camp experience. All sessions are sleep-away experiences for children aged 8–17, and those between ages 15–17 are part of the Leadership Track. Cabin groups are assigned based on age and/or gender selection; by default, campers are placed in a gender-inclusive cabin, with an option to opt into a girls-only or boys-only cabin at registration. Camp Omni blends world-class science and critical thinking with a traditional outdoor camp experience and features science, natural wonder, and humanist values such as empathy, creativity, critical thinking, and community. Camp Omni’s programs aim to cultivate reason and empathy as foundations for an ethical, productive, and fulfilling life, and campers experience first hand the benefits of a secular community in addition to the benefits of summer camp. Camp Omni is a non-profit run by volunteers deeply committed to its mission and is accredited by the American Camp Association. Camp Omni lists at a glance that it is ACA accredited, has medical staff on site, is gender inclusive, offers a leadership training program, and is run by kind humans in an emotionally safe environment.
Camp Omni will have a health supervisor at camp with an RN or higher level of training. Registration includes food, program expenses, t-shirts, and more. To register, families must provide up-to-date immunization records or a medical exemption, COVID-19 vaccination and booster dates, health insurance policy details, physician contact information, emergency contact information, additional guardian pick-up permissions, and the child’s t-shirt size. The health supervisor is prepared to handle medical conditions treatable with oral, topical, or inhalable medications that have been under good control medically for at least a month. Camp Omni requires vaccination against COVID-19 from all camp attendees.
Thanks to support from the freethought community and the Helen Kagin Memorial Fund, financial aid may be available for families that cannot afford the Tier 3 (Bronze Arrow) pricing. One parent noted that the curriculum, including astronomy and sleeping under the stars, appeared fun and engaging and connected directly with the lessons, and that group activities and quests were a positive part of the experience. Multiple parents described the camp as inclusive and welcoming, with one parent highlighting the impact of a non-binary cabin on their cisgender child’s understanding of being an ally. Parents reported that their children came home energized, with many new friends, and one parent specifically mentioned that their child did not miss having a phone at camp. Another parent shared that Camp Omni lets their kids be exactly who they are, with both children wanting to return as long as they can, and appreciated that the camp teaches about the world with a humanist and critical thinking mindset. Sitar Harel, a former camper, current board member, and Camp Director, stated that learning about humanism and critical thinking from Camp Omni’s caring and dedicated staff has had an incredible impact on their life.
