Children's Innovation Center Research Programs and STEAM Courses offers college-level research programs, capstone projects, and STEAM coursework. The program includes an Interdisciplinary Research Program at a university level with two options: an Independent Research Track and a Capstone Project Track. It also offers a Research Ambassadors Leadership and Communication program, Analytical Thinking & Blog Writing as an online asynchronous course with grading, and opportunities for earning Community Service credits through promoting scientific research and innovation. In addition, the program provides college prep, comprehensive college counseling services, 1:1 College Counseling, college planning, and admissions and application support, including free admissions information through previously recorded College Admissions seminars.
Children's Innovation Center Research Programs and STEAM Courses is connected with the Center for Sustainable Innovation & Transformative Education and has a stated focus on sustainable innovation and transformative education. Its mission is to empower children from all backgrounds to become innovative leaders by providing access to transformative education in STEM fields and college counseling, fostering a culture of critical thinking and creativity, and instilling a sense of responsibility and care for the planet, while inspiring and equipping the next generation of change-makers and problem-solvers to shape a better future for all. The program’s vision is that children from all backgrounds have access to tools, resources, and opportunities to unleash their full potential as innovative leaders, problem-solvers, and responsible citizens.
Co-founder Shanti Balaraman is a researcher, innovator, education advocate, and counselor with experience in the technology industry. She formerly served as the President of the Stanford University Chapter of Sigma Xi, the Scientific Research Honor Society, which is described as a prestigious scientific research honor society. She also served as a U.S. delegate to the United Nations' Global Transformative Education Forum. The program’s community involvement includes earning Community Service credits, serving the community and empowering the next generation of change-makers, and promoting scientific research while equipping postgraduate and undergraduate students with opportunities and essential skills to address complex interdisciplinary real-world challenges.
