About

The Theater Factory engages participants in theater games, exercises, improvisations, specialized workshops, and classroom productions. The program culminates in a grand finale staged for a wider audience. Its Theater Training Module covers all aspects of theater training with a focus on acting and uses drama techniques ranging from classical and folk to contemporary. A Leadership Development Module uses theater as a medium to build conversation skills, refine body language, and shape overall personality, with teamwork enhanced through improvisational techniques and special emphasis on leadership development.

The Theater Factory is described as a unique production ensemble specially designed for children and teenagers, using the individual talents of young minds as its core material. According to its mission statement, the program’s outcome is a distinct improvement in conversational, leadership, and social skills, body language, and overall personality development of the child, which can be seen in classroom productions for parents and a grand finale for a wider audience. The leadership team includes CEO and Founder and Director Ish Amitoj Kaur; Choreographer Isabella La Bove; Music Director Davis Zamboanga; Dance Instructor and Choreographer Erika Latour; and Vocal Director LJ Bryant.

Ish Amitoj Kaur is a prominent theatre educator and activist based in Newark, CA, with 26 years of experience teaching drama in schools, and also directs plays in collaboration with cities such as Newark, Dublin, the Hayward Area Park Ramp Recreation District, and Palo Alto Children’s Theatre. Music Director Davis Zamboanga is a music educator and trombonist in the San Francisco Bay Area with a BA in music from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo; he served as CEO of Mustang Band from 2019 to 2020, founded the Cal Poly Composition Forum in 2019, and works with Saint Francis High School in Mountain View, the United Spirit Association Band Program, and JAMS Music. Dance Instructor and Choreographer Erika Latour has over 30 years of dance experience and more than 25 years of teaching in the Bay Area, including work with the East Bay Center of Performing Arts and Cal State universities; her repertoire includes jazz, hip hop, ballroom, tap, and ethnic folk styles, and she has national touring experience in Ballet Folklórico, as well as musical theater choreography credits such as The Little Mermaid, Mary Poppins, Willy Wonka Jr., and Frozen Jr., teaching students aged 6 to 75. Vocal Director LJ Bryant is a professional vocalist, pianist, music director, and entertainer from Chicago, Illinois, specializing in R&B, jazz, blues, and Broadway; he was a finalist for the Chicago Bears national anthem, has opened for acts such as Morris Day and The Time, Con Funk Shun, and Keith Washington, has headlined Yoshi’s in Oakland and multiple Bay Area festivals, and is currently vocal directing musicals around the Bay Area including Chicago, Lion King, and Lizzie.
