About
California Cartwheel Center Gymnastics offers gymnastics and tumbling classes, camps, nights out, supervised free play, Open Workout, and options for celebrating a birthday. The program also offers Little Dippers classes and Tot Time, and provides a place for children to perfect a skill. It is the home of non-competitive gymnastics training from 18 months to teenage years.
• Ages: 18 months–teenage years
• Schedule: Office hours include afternoon and some morning options Monday–Thursday, and Saturday mornings and early afternoons
• Price: Tuition is charged on the 21st of each month for the following month, with prorated tuition available for mid-month starts; there is an annual registration fee of $40 for the first child and $20 for the second child ($60 maximum per family).
California Cartwheel Center first opened in 1982 on Lavery Ct. in Newbury Park, CA, and in 1986 moved to its current location on Rancho Conejo Blvd. in Newbury Park, CA. The program states that it has been making gymnastics fun for 38 years. The leadership team includes Steve Chase (Founder, Director, Gymnastics Instructor), Jackie Chase (Office Manager), and Gracie Nomachi (Gymnastics Instructor).
The program states that its focus is on promoting children to learn, grow, and succeed with a fun, safe, positive, and creative approach. It states that each child is different and their needs are unique, and that it continuously strives to build gymnasts’ self-esteem by focusing on the fun aspect of learning. The program also states that children learn lessons from gymnastics, such as perseverance, which they will carry with them into their futures.
Open Workout can be used as a makeup class, and missed classes may be made up within one month of the missed class with scheduled make-ups, with no drop-in make-ups. A free trial class is available by calling the office. Camp sign-up cannot be done on the website and must be done by calling or visiting the office, and camp does not offer refunds for missed camp days except in the case of an emergency, though credit from a missed day may be used toward camp in the future. Camp snack and meal times are snack at 10:30am, lunch at 12:30pm, and snack at 2:30pm.
General policies state that there is no food or drink on the gym floor. Parents are required to stay in the viewing areas and may not be on the gymnastics floor for any reason, with Little Dippers classes and Tot Time as the only exceptions. For all classes, children must be barefoot while out on the floor, secure long hair away from their face, remove jewelry, and wear fitted clothes. Camp policies state that at pick-up, a parent or guardian must sign out and inform the camp staff, and families are asked to bring a snack or lunch for their child.
