About
Lights Up Musical Theatre Schools offers musical theatre classes where students take part in singing, dancing, acting, group harmony and solo vocal work, scene study, dance technique, script writing, choreography, theatre games, and movement. The program includes weekly musical theatre classes, after school programs, and The Company teen program, as well as Spring Break and Summer camps that focus on building scenes, learning songs and dances, and bringing these together into a show for friends and family on the last day of camp. Each themed camp follows the same structure, with new songs, dances, and acting material each week so campers do not repeat material, and students are split into age groups in camps.
• Ages: 3–18 years old
• Schedule: Weekly musical theatre classes run alongside the school terms, including The Company program with 3 hours of classes once a week for 10 weeks on Friday evenings, plus Spring Break and Summer camps offered as half day and full day options Monday to Friday. Half day camps for 4–6 year olds run Monday to Friday, 9:15am–12:15pm, and full day camps for 6–12 year olds run Monday to Friday, 9:00am–3:00pm, with shows for parents on Friday during both half day and full day camps.
• Price: The Company term fee is $570 + GST per Fall, Winter, or Spring term, with a $100 deposit to register and a one-time $30 student kit fee for new Company students, and camps are $260 for half day (4–6 years) and $425 for full day (6–12 years), each with a $50 deposit deducted from the balance of fees.
At Lights Up, the stated mission is to teach musical theatre skills that help students shine on stage and in all aspects of their lives, with an emphasis on the value of the theatre process rather than only the final production. The Company teen program is described as giving older students skills and confidence for post-secondary training, audition skills and technique, or confidence, poise, and drive in any future job or endeavour, and students in The Company work together to create various performance pieces throughout the year that explore different aspects of musical theatre. Students joining The Company are expected to have a strong interest in performing arts and some past experience with singing, dance, and/or acting, and Spring Term 2026 is a “SHOW TERM” in which weekly classes work toward a full musical show performed in a theatre in June.
The program offers sibling discounts for classes, with a 50% class discount for siblings joining Spotlight or The Company, and sibling discounts for camps, with $25 off half day camps and $50 off full day camps for siblings registering alongside another sibling. Multiple camp discounts are also available, with $25 off each additional half day camp and $50 off each additional full day camp after a child’s first camp of the year, and sibling and multiple discounts cannot be combined, with the greatest discount applied and discounts automatically applied after sign up. An ongoing wait list is kept for any full classes, and places are offered in the order they are received as spots open.
Parent testimonials describe children who were shy becoming more confident in group situations after attending Lights Up Theatre School, and parents report that their children enjoy regular classes and camps and that teachers are described as excellent, supportive, encouraging, and professional. One parent notes being impressed by The Company show and the students’ hands-on involvement in script writing and choreography, with peer support described as abundant, and another parent mentions that staff shared a video of dance moves to support a child with ADHD in practicing at home.
