Novato Parents Nursery School

Novato Parents Nursery School is a co-operative Novato preschool where parents and teachers work together to create a love of learning through both structured and unstructured play experiences. The program is child-centered and play-based, and it provides a stimulating and creative environment that encourages the development of each child. Parents gain the opportunity to work with the director and teachers to create the space they desire for their children, and parents provide the fuel to this place with their many talents, skills, and strengths.

From its earliest days starting in 1968, the Novato Parents Nursery School community has strived to provide a safe and caring environment for children as they progress toward greater independence and self-reliance. The program is not a faith-based program or affiliated with Novato United Methodist Church despite being housed there. Community playdates are open to the public, and families at Novato Parents Nursery School build a community and friendships that last through preschool and beyond. The school operates under License #210102877 and follows a nondiscriminatory policy as to students regarding race, color, national, and ethnic origin in all of its programs and policies. One testimonial shared by the program is the quote, “Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children, play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood.” by Fred Rogers. The program describes itself as not just a preschool, but a community.
