About
Aim High Summer includes activities such as art, sports, board games, movie making, cooking, energizer games, and other enrichment activities. Students also design and build projects that solve real-world problems, read, write, think about and discuss contemporary issues, and take part in age-appropriate lessons and activities to explore their identity. The program includes time to develop social emotional skills, create plans for their future, play games, engage in friendly competition, make new friends, try new experiences, and learn in a fun environment.
• Ages: 10–14 years old
• Schedule: Multi-week summer sessions in 2026, with students attending from mid- or late June through mid- or late July, and a sample day running from 8:00am early drop off to 3:15pm dismissal, plus extended care until 5:00pm
• Price: no-cost summer program
Aim High Summer is designed for current 5th–8th grade middle school students who have limited access to summer academic enrichment programs and is committed to a multi-summer learning experience beginning in 5th grade through 8th grade, with students expected to attend consecutive summers throughout middle school. The program is guided by CORE values of Community, Opportunity, Respect, and High Expectations, and states that behavior expectations and interventions are rooted in restorative practices, including using restorative practices to prevent and respond to conflict, harm, and wrongdoing. Aim High states that it strives to create an inclusive environment where staff and students feel they are part of something special and can be their true selves and notes that it is not equipped with a full SPED department at summer program locations and is unable to provide 1:1 full day support for students at this time. Oakland Unified School District students are directed to apply through Inplay.
Aim High notes that students love the program because they make new friends, prepare for high school, try new experiences, and learn in a fun environment. One parent describes Aim High as a lifeline as a working parent, citing confidence that their child experiences both fun and learning, easy communication, strong program offerings, enjoyment of instructors, and a chance for their child to get a taste of middle school transitions between classes, different enrichment opportunities, new sports, and mentorship.
