All kids ages 3–11 may attend Axé Kids Camps & Programs as campers, and ages 12–17 are welcome as junior counselors. Campers should pack a lunch each day, and lunch is not provided or sold; they have a 30-minute lunch break at 12:00 p.m. each day. Campers can bring their own snacks if they choose, and if a camper has allergies or a special diet, staff should be informed and an alternative snack should be sent with them. The stated goal of the camp is for the children to make new friends, learn the art of capoeira, and enjoy themselves in a fun, loving, and safe environment. Axé Oakland also offers adults and kids capoeira classes, as well as kids camps and programs.

Axé Kids Camps & Programs is led by Mestre Chipa (Lucivaldo de Oliveira) of Ginga Mundo Capoeira Association. He has been a student of the Afro-Brazilian martial art of capoeira for over 30 years and has taught capoeira for more than 20 years throughout the United States, Brazil, and other parts of the world. He is a renowned capoeirista worldwide and was the champion of the Red Bull Paranae Competition in Barcelona, Spain in 2016. His stated objective is to spread knowledge about his culture and history and to share his passion for capoeira with children and adults in low income, refugee, and disadvantaged communities, and he strives to improve the community through in-school, after-school, and other youth programs.
