The organization welcomes middle and high school students from across the Bay Area and offers need-based scholarships for all programs. It provides rowing opportunities for student athletes from across the East Bay to learn to row and race in a team environment, with a larger stated goal of building character and commitment in its young men and women. The Oakland Strokes has developed a community outreach program to find local youth who will benefit from joining the club.
The organization’s boats consistently place and win at regional, national, and world championships, and they are invited to international rowing events such as the Henley Royal Regatta on the River Thames in London and the Head of the Charles in Massachusetts.
