About
College Track is a 10-year, comprehensive college completion program that partners with students from under-resourced communities who will be the first in their families to graduate from college. The program works with scholars on their educational journey from freshman year of high school until they graduate from college.
• Schedule: 10-year, comprehensive program
College Track’s flagship site opened in 1997 with a cohort of 25 students from Carlmont High School. In 2002, the organization opened its second center in downtown Oakland, and today the Oakland center serves 475 high school and college students. The organization has grown to 13 centers in diverse communities, including Sacramento, San Francisco, Boyle Heights, New Orleans, Aurora, Denver, and a new Baltimore Ravens College Track Center launched in 2024 through a $20 million donation from The Baltimore Ravens, The Stephen and Renee Bisciotti Foundation, and M&T Bank. Since 2014, College Track Sacramento has served scholars from Sacramento and surrounding areas such as Natomas and Elk Grove, 97% of whom will be the first in their family to earn a college degree, and College Track San Francisco has grown from 50 students in 2007 to more than 700 scholars served. In New Orleans, more than 400 students are on the path to college and career success, and in 2017, 100 percent of Boyle Heights’ inaugural class headed off to college.
The mission of College Track states that a bachelor’s degree remains one of the strongest drivers of opportunity, and the organization partners with students from under-resourced communities to extend the promise of higher education across generations. Its work focuses on equipping scholars to succeed in college and pursue meaningful careers, including in fields where students from diverse backgrounds have historically had less access. Since its founding, College Track has partnered with school districts, superintendents, middle and high schools, local organizations, and families to build a pipeline of first-generation college graduates whose collective achievements transform their communities.
The leadership team includes Nikki Wardlaw, Director of Philanthropic Initiatives, and Suling Miller, Managing Director, Institutional Philanthropy.
