The East Oakland Boxing Association After-School Program is part of a multi-service youth and community development hub that includes a community garden and free farmers markets. The program uses boxing as a model of discipline, courage, and perseverance while integrating activities connected to wellness, academics, and community. It incorporates elements of workforce development, food justice, afterschool enrichment, financial literacy, mentorship, and wellness.

For over 40 years, the East Oakland Boxing Association has served as a safe haven for youth and families in East Oakland, particularly those from low-income backgrounds. Its mission is to create a secure and enriching environment that inspires individuals to thrive in education, health and wellness, and community engagement. The organization’s approach to youth development is based on eight dimensions of wellness: physical, emotional, spiritual, social, intellectual, environmental, occupational, and financial, with each dimension tied to specific factors such as nutrition, stress reduction, social support, literacy, mindfulness, safety, exploration of interests, and budgeting. EOBA also operates free farmers markets and a community garden as part of its service to youth and families.
