The Oceano Dunes Junior Lifeguard Program offers summer programs and fall surf sessions for ages 5 to 18. Summer Programs meet Monday-Friday from 10:00AM-2:00PM, and Fall Surf Sessions meet Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 9 am-12 pm. Summer Programs cost $290.00 plus a $10 service fee per session, and Fall Surf Sessions cost $100 each.

About the provider
The program began in 2013. The coordinator is Obadiah Wheeler, and the co-coordinator is Libby Machado. The program’s stated objective is to provide quality water safety education and to improve young people’s physical conditioning, understanding of the environment, and respect for themselves and others. All JG instructors and Fall Surf Program instructors are Ocean Lifeguards certified in Public Safety First Aid, CPR and AED, and they pass an 8-day academy run by the State of California in Huntington Beach. The program also offers free bussing to and from the Nipomo/Santa Maria area Monday through Friday for the JG program courtesy of SMOOTH Transportation.
Fall Surf Sessions are geared towards homeschool or charter school/hybrid kids. If a child participated in JG's or any other program within the last year, they do not need to tryout again. The handbook mentions tryout testing standards, tuition assistance program, behavioral expectations, tryout waiver for returning Junior Lifeguard, refund policy, disciplinary procedure, and important contact information.
