The Compound MMA Kids Training includes self-defense, strength and conditioning, Muay Thai and kickboxing, boxing, MMA, one-on-one training, Jiu-Jitsu and grappling, wrestling, Judo, and kids training classes. Kids can take part in boxing classes, jiu jitsu classes, wrestling classes, kickboxing classes, Muay Thai classes, strength and conditioning classes, and HIIT classes as part of the wider program at The Compound MMA gym.
• Ages: 5–18 years old
The Compound MMA and fitness gym has been in operation for 20 years and offers 10 different unique classes covering all forms of fighting and self-defense for beginners through seasoned professional fighters. The gym is open 24 hours a day and members have access to all 95 classes offered per month, including classes for kids and adults of any age and experience level. The mission of the gym is to keep a competitive and hard working atmosphere to push and motivate anyone who is professionally fighting, amateurly fighting, or taking the steps into being the best version of themselves. The gym features the largest boxing ring in San Diego, the only free motion self-propelled punching bag system in the U.S., a full-sized UFC cage, over 5,000 square feet of workout space, and amenities that include a sauna and a purified water system.
Classes are always taught by UFC, Bellator, and World Champion boxers, Black Belts, and other professional fighters. The leadership team includes Joey Beltran as Head Striking Coach; Elj Portee as Assistant Coach Team Captain and Freestyle MMA Fighter; Kent McIntyre as Grappling Coach; Benjamin Smith as an MMA coach specializing in Muay Thai and current Muay Thai coach; Hector Araiza as Muay Thai Coach; Chace Eskam as an all-state wrestler and high-level MMA athlete; Quantal Langford as Head Wrestling Coach; Tony Brown as Assistant Grappling Coach; and Santiago Garcia as Assistant Wrestling Coach. Joey Beltran is a former BKFC Heavyweight Champion, a two-time UFC fight of the night winner, and the 5150 Combat League Heavyweight Champion, and has competed for the UFC, Bellator, Strikeforce, King of the Cage, and Bare-Knuckle Fighting Championship. Coach Kent McIntyre is a 3rd Degree Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Benjamin Smith has over 15 years of experience in MMA with a background in Jiu Jitsu, grappling, boxing, wrestling, and Muay Thai. Hector Araiza has over 15 years in mixed martial arts with experience in Muay Thai, Jiu Jitsu, grappling, boxing, wrestling, and active MMA competition. Tony Brown wrestled at Fresno State University, has coached high school wrestling and college wrestling seminars, is a purple belt in Jiu Jitsu, and has been a coach at The Compound for 10 years. Santiago Garcia is a star member and team captain of the Palomar College wrestling team, has been a kids club coach for 3 years, and has been a varsity coach for Valhalla.
Quantal Langford was a 3-time regional champion, 3-time state qualifier, 2-time state medalist, and state finalist in high school, and a 2-time conference finalist, conference champion, and Division 1 national qualifier at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga; he helped coach multiple All-Americans and national finalists at Campbellsville University and placed 3rd at a California Catch Wrestling Tournament and 1st in the Blue Belt Division at the Ross Miura No Gi Challenge. Santiago Garcia is a 2-time CIF placer, 2020 SDS Masters finalist, was ranked 24th in California in 2020, is an SCWAY Grade state champion, placed 7th at Battle for the Belt, is a 2-time outstanding wrestler award recipient, a finalist at the D-Day on Midway freestyle tournament, an 11-time tournament champion, 4-time tournament finalist, and 10-time tournament placer. The program is part of a gym that states it has something for everyone in the Oceanside athletic community.
