About
Art Space on the Coast offers workshops and classes where participants can be creative in a community art studio setting. The program includes Glaze & Go pottery that participants can glaze and decorate themselves, access to studio space rental with two large work areas, and use of pottery wheels and a slab roller. Firing services are available for pottery, including bisque firing, low-fire glaze firing, and mid-fire glaze firing.
• Schedule: Open Wednesday–Friday 11am–5pm and Saturday–Sunday 10am–5pm
• Price: $5.00 per damage area for any glaze damage or leftover glaze on the kiln shelf; if more than 3 areas are on the same shelf, a new shelf is charged at $42.00. $0.07 per cubic inch for bisque or low fire (cone 04/06). $0.10 per cubic inch for mid-range fire (cone 5/6). Any pieces left after 1 month (30 business days) are charged a storage fee of $5.00 per day.
Art Space on the Coast is led by Pacifican and local ceramic artist Jennifer Christiansen, who is creating a home for a growing population of local artisans and makers. The stated mission is to provide a space for aspiring artisans while both giving back to the local economy and creating a new sense of community. The studio offers a community for all levels in a variety of art mediums and serves as a social outlet. The gallery at Art Space on the Coast showcases over 20 local artists, including potters, jewelers, fine artists, photographers, and glass artists, and their creations. The studio offers learning space rental with options for a one-time engagement with capacity up to 16 persons and a class series rental with capacity for 8 persons. Glaze & Go is available daily on a walk-in basis with no registration and no experience needed apart from using a paint brush, and current Glaze & Go stock includes tiles or coasters, tumblers and mugs, rice bowls, salad plates, pasta bowls, and dinner plates. Firing services use electric kilns on a contract basis, accept only commercial clays and glazes, and do not allow wild clay. Bisque and low-fire work is fired to cone 05 in an oxidation atmosphere with a turnaround time of about 7 days, and mid-fire work is fired to cone 6 in an oxidation atmosphere with a turnaround time of about 10 days. Glazed work must not have any glaze on the bottom, and pieces with glaze near the bottom must be fired on a cookie, which can be purchased for $2 each. All firing service fees are due at pickup and can be paid with cash, Venmo, Zelle, or credit card. An email list is available with about three emails per month and an option to unsubscribe at any time.
