About

Youth Summer Camps gives participants time to throw on the potter's wheel, build projects with coils, and build projects with slabs. Campers also create sculptures of their choice. On the last day of camp, there is woodfired pizza on site with fresh homemade sourdough.

• Ages: 8–14 years old
• Schedule: One-week, 5-hour-per-day summer camp sessions with options offered Monday–Friday, 9am–1pm and 6:30pm–9pm, and Saturday and Sunday, 9am–5pm

Clay Creations has been offering youth classes and summer camp for over 25 years. The studio has a very small student-teacher ratio. Skilled instructors also teach private lessons for teambuilding, group celebrations, or single-day classes. The studio provides 20 mid-fire dipping glazes with many test tiles of various combinations, 12 cone 10 high-fire glazes, 12 raku glazes, and 8 flashing slips for atmospheric firings. Atmospheric firings are hosted at Oribe Firing Center in San Gregorio, with events and workshops centered around woodfire, soda, raku, and pitfire. Many children return year after year, and additional project ideas are provided for students who attend more than one week. Students can bring their finished pieces home. Campers are asked to bring a snack, water, and layers of clothing in case the studio is chilly. Food is provided on Friday of camp, and parents are asked to inform the studio if their child is gluten free or has other dietary restrictions. Clay Creations also has a ClayMobile that is taken on the road to provide a ceramics experience in a different setting. The studio states that it believes it is more important than ever for youth to have a creative outlet.
