Junior golf programs at Palm Desert Golf Academy have been offered since 1998 and have guided young players since that time. The programs are led by Paul Bucy, PGA, Director of Instruction and three-time DCPGA Junior Golf Teacher of the Year, along with his professional staff. The expert staff for junior golf is led by Bill Spicknall, who brings years of expertise, a friendly approach, and a focus on junior golf development, and the broader golf leadership team includes multiple PGA professionals such as Ryan Szydlowski, Jason Wilkinson, Jeff Grant, Josh Garber, and Matt Holm. Coach Bill Spicknall states, “Our goal as coaches is to develop junior golfers for top performance, make a positive impact on them as young athletes, and to do this with respect and integrity.”
The junior golf programs are described as Coachella Valley’s Leading Junior Golf Program for ages 7–13 and emphasize fun, fundamentals, and friendly coaching. They use small student-to-teacher ratios of 4:1 or 6:1 and blend skills development, on-course play, and personalized coaching, with the Fairway Kids Skills Series using the U.S. Kids Golf Level-Based System. The programs provide a pathway from first swing through competitive high school preparation and are described as fun, social, and inclusive, with PGA Jr. League featuring team jerseys, bag tags, a scramble format, and an All-Star pathway.
