About
Dance with Miss Lindsay offers Summer Dance Camps, weekly summer dance classes, and special events that include styles such as ballet, pointe, jazz, contemporary, tap, hip hop, and Pilates. Camp themes include SECRET LIFE OF PRINCESS, Zoonami Animal Dance Take Over, “OH THE PLACES YOU’LL DANCE!” DR. SEUSS, K-POP MAGIK, and a DANCE INTENSIVE, with activities such as jungle hip-hop, jazzy moves, tap, wild games, creature crafts, themed crafts, and dancing through stories. During the DANCE INTENSIVE, dancers take classes with guest teachers, work on variations from classical ballets, design and create their own dance costume, and learn about stage make-up, making performance buns, and nutrition, with a performance on Friday; all other summer dance camps also include a performance on Friday unless otherwise noted.
• Ages: 18 months–18 years old
• Schedule: Three-day themed camps in June and July from 9:00am–1:00pm, a five-day DANCE INTENSIVE from 9:00am–3:00pm, and 2026 Summer Classes running on set weekdays between early June and early August with class lengths of 30, 45, 60, or 120 minutes.
• Price: Themed camps $145, DANCE INTENSIVE $340, extended care $20 per hour, and 2026 Summer Fees ranging from $10 drop-in for a 30-minute class to $140 for a six-week 120-minute class.
Summer camps include snacks for the SECRET LIFE OF PRINCESS, ZOONAMI ANIMAL TAKEOVER, “OH THE PLACES YOU’LL DANCE!” DR. SEUSS, and K-POP MAGIK sessions, while students in the DANCE INTENSIVE bring their own lunch, and extended care is available from 7:30am for an additional fee. Class options include Ballet Technique 2/3, Ballet Technique 4/5, Lyrical, Ballet Pointe, Pre-Ballet/Tap, Ballet/Hip hop, Toddler Time, and Pre-Ballet/Hip hop, with PETITE CLASSES for ages 18 months–5 years, YOUTH CLASSES for ages 9–11 years, PRIME CLASSES for ages 9–12 years, and INTENSIVE CLASSES for ages 12 years and up. The studio also offers IMPROPTU DANCERS, a community-based dance troupe, and BIRTHDAY BLAST, an in-studio birthday extravaganza.
Dance with Miss Lindsay was started in 2000 by Miss Lindsay Kaufmann, who has engaged children in dance, music, and theatre for over 20 years and began teaching ballet and dance locally in 1993. She is a graduate of Palm Springs High School and California State University at Chico, continued her ballet training in Austria, and became a ballet instructor for over 200 young girls in three different cities, later working as a dance instructor, artistic director, and studio owner. Her mission states that she views education as a cornerstone to a more enriching life, uses a “can-do” approach that emphasizes integrity, and focuses on confidence, perseverance, self-love regardless of body size or shape, discipline, respect, self-acceptance, and empathy, using dance as the vehicle for students to find their authentic self and develop personal confidence and skills for life.
Hip hop is taught by Alexis Acker, who has been dancing for over thirty years, is an alumna of Palm Springs High School, and began teaching there in August 2006 as Dance Director, choreographing spring musicals and coaching and directing the Dance Team. Alexis Acker received the Desert Theatre League Outstanding Choreographer for Youth Theatre awards for the Palm Springs High School productions of Annie (2017) and Bye Bye Birdie (2018). Community involvement includes outreach programs, scholarships, and inviting well renowned guest teachers from abroad, and IMPROPTU DANCERS is described as a community-based dance troupe.
The program describes Dance with Miss Lindsay as a journey for each child, not just an activity, and notes that many former students have gone on to college and a variety of careers including dance, with some of their children now enrolled at the studio. Former students have reported that their time at Dance with Miss Lindsay helped them feel comfortable with themselves and that the skills they learned there—integrity, confidence, and kindness—have become the backbone of how they live their lives. One testimonial from Niccoló Orsolani states that Miss Lindsay brings high education in the art of dance to the community with outreach programs, scholarships, and guest teachers from abroad, and that teaching for Miss Lindsay has been a pleasure.
