Grassroots Junior Tennis is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 2004. The specific purpose of the organization is to teach tennis as a lifetime recreational and educational sport, with classes held year round and available to children ages 7–14 regardless of financial status. Classes are available to young adults and children regardless of financial status and are open to all playing skill levels, including beginners, intermediates, and advanced players. The goal is not to create “winners” but to give each child a chance to be one.

Kay Butler is the Founder and Executive Director, and the Board of Directors includes Jannine Young, Frannie Winstone, and Kay Butler. Kay draws on her many years of competitive and professional experience and has successfully coached junior tennis players of varying ages. Teachers will be on the courts at 7:15 am for the June 16–July 30 session, which runs Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursdays from 7:30 am to 9:00 am.

Grassroots Junior Tennis is working with the majority of Coachella Valley school districts to provide a meaningful outlet for any child who wishes to participate and relies on sponsorships and donations to provide professional instruction to all interested Coachella Valley youth. Sponsors include Anderson Children's Foundation, Jack Pugh foundation, Bighorn Cares, United States Tennis Association (USTA), Southern California Tennis Association (SCTA), R.A.P. - Regional Access Project Foundation, City of Palm Springs, Sun City Palm Desert Tennis Club, and The MOCA Fund at Schwab Charitable.
