The Baylands Instruction Team leading Junior Golf Programs has more than 40+ years of teaching experience. The program’s stated mission is that golf is a life long sport to enjoy with friends and family and that it teaches responsibility, self control, comradery, sportsmanship, character, and respect. The First Tee of Silicon Valley, mentioned in connection with the program, is a youth development program that uses the game of golf to build character, instill life-enhancing values, and promote healthy choices, and Youth on Course offers its members career prep, leadership, and scholarship programs in addition to access to golf courses.

Junior Golf Programs takes place at a course that was formerly the Palo Alto Municipal Golf Course, founded in the mid 1950’s as a municipal course and opened in 1956, and re-designed by architect Forrest Richardson before reopening to the public on May 26, 2018. The re-designed course features 55 acres of native Baylands vegetation and wetlands areas, a 40% reduction of managed turf areas, and a 35% reduction of potable water use. The project added 10.5 acres to the Baylands Athletic Center for future recreational use, converted 7.4 acres of land into in-stream marshland terrace habitat within an expanded San Francisquito Creek for increased flood protection, and included the planting of 300 new native trees on the reconfigured course. It also included planting two acres of native bay ecosystem habitat in Byxbee Park and protection and monitoring of 500 naturally-occurring oak saplings in the Pearson Arastradero Preserve. The course has an undulating landscape with elevated scenic views of the Baylands and San Francisco Bay, and golf holes separated by large natural areas planted with wetlands plant species that improve habitat for birds and wildlife. The facility is operated by the City of Palo Alto as part of its Baylands Nature Preserve District, is adjacent to the coastal land bordering Palo Alto along the San Francisco Bay, and has San Francisquito Creek running along the course as a major flood conveyance stream. The Summer Junior Golf Camps maintain a maximum ratio of 6:1 junior-to-instructor and are led by the Baylands Golf Professional Staff.
