The Pacific Art League operates as a nonprofit art school, gallery, and community hub and offers in-person classes and workshops for artists of all levels and ages. It offers art classes, workshops, and summer camps on a quarterly basis, serving over 2,000 students per quarter and working with approximately 35–40 instructors. PAL’s free community art events invite everyone to make, explore, and connect, and its corporate art workshops have been attended by corporate teams across the Bay Area. Membership dollars support exhibits, community outreach, school programs, and scholarships. The organization’s mission is to inspire and nurture the growth of individuals and communities in the Bay Area by providing access to transformative creative experiences through art.

The Pacific Art League, originally known as the Palo Alto Art Club, was founded in 1921. In 1965, the group purchased its current home, and in 1984 it changed its name from the Palo Alto Art Club to the Pacific Art League. The building underwent a $4 million renovation in 2014 that included work to meet American Disabilities Act compliance and seismic retrofitting while preserving its historic charm.

Supply lists for classes are available on the PAL website under each course description, and students are responsible for purchasing their own supplies before the first class. Occasionally, a materials fee is listed under the course description, in which case the instructor provides the needed supplies for that fee, payable by cash or check at the first class. Model fees vary by class and are detailed in the course description.
