Harambee BEE Program offers tutoring, academic support, and after school activities that include games, team building, and athletics. Scholars take part in performing arts enrichment such as music, dance, visual arts, theater training, and performance, along with auditions. The program also includes a tutoring program, computer classes, ESL classes, t-shirt making, and catering.

By the end of the 10 sessions, scholars will have gained valuable knowledge and experience that will help them pursue their dreams and make a transformative impact in the world. The program’s mission is to encourage, support, and empower youth and their families through the power of education, leadership and discipleship. Harambee BEE Program provides culturally responsive curriculum for Eliot & Altadena Arts Magnet schools that focus on scholastic improvement, character development, and intergenerational leadership for youth.
The Harambee BEE Program partners with Pasadena Unified School District students and families. Today, Harambee offers a performing arts program on three Pasadena Unified School District campuses. Harambee After The Bell addresses the needs of the community by providing a safe space for students to be after school. Harambee Performing Arts (HPA) is a creative arts branch of Harambee Ministries that focuses on mentorship and development of skills in music, dance, visual arts, theater training, and performance. Harambee Power Talk is a program for Pasadena Unified School District students that centers on conversations meant to challenge unhealthy belief systems and thought patterns from a culturally relevant perspective.
Harambee Ministries is focused on discipleship, scholarship, and leadership. Sometimes a problem cannot be solved by one person, and in that instance the word “Harambee” in Kiswahili translates to “let’s get together and push.” In 1982, Dr. John Perkins called Christians from across the country to Northwest Pasadena, California, a historically redlined community that was marginalized and under-resourced, and what began 40 years ago as a rally cry still continues. Harambee seeks the community by sharing biblical truths in order to work toward the rebuilding of urban neighborhoods through relocation, reconciliation, and redistribution.
The leadership team for the Harambee BEE Program includes Brandon Lamar as Executive Director, Courtney Linsey as Program Director, Terrané Peterson as Program Administrator, Kim Kirui as Operations Manager, and Peju Oluwole as Program Coordinator. One parent testimonial states, “At Harambee they’re not just building artists. They’re shaping hearts, minds and developing the next leaders of this generation.” A scholar testimonial states, “Harambee is not just a performing arts program, it is so much more. It is a great place to learn and grow, the highlight of my summer, and it’s a great place to make friends.”
