Roger Machado Jiu-Jitsu was the first Jiu-Jitsu school in Pasadena, originally opened as RCJ Machado Jiu-Jitsu by the Machado Brothers in the early 2000s, with RCJ Machado Jiu-Jitsu first established in 1990 in Redondo Beach, California. The academy is described as Pasadena’s Original Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu School and welcomes all experience levels, all ages including children, teens, adults, and seniors, and all fitness levels. All programs focus on the core self-defense aspects of Jiu-Jitsu instead of solely on the competitive sport aspect and use a simple, fast paced approach to learning Jiu-Jitsu while having fun. The Kids Jiu-Jitsu program places a special emphasis on bully prevention while helping kids develop good health, self-confidence, respectfulness, and social skills. The academy offers a free introductory class and is described as having a fun and welcoming environment.

Master Roger Machado is the owner and head instructor of the Roger Machado Jiu-Jitsu Academy in Pasadena, California. He is a 7th Degree Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Coral (Red/Black) Belt with over 55 years of experience in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. He earned his black belt in 1989 and his coral belt in 2021, a Master level rank earned after more than 30 years teaching at the black belt level, and he is described as one of only a handful of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu teachers in the world to hold this rank. His stated lineage is Mitsuyo Maeda → Carlos Gracie Sr. → Rolls Gracie → Carlos Gracie Jr. → Roger Machado, and he is described as one of the founding instructors of the Gracie “Barra” Jiu-Jitsu Club in Barra Da Tijuca, Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. Roger and his brothers have taught Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to martial arts figures such as Chuck Norris and Guru Dan Inosanto, and to celebrities Keanu Reeves, Ashton Kutcher, and Joe Rogan, and the Machado Brothers are known for success in ADCC Submission Wrestling World Championships, Pan American Games, and Brazilian National Championships. Master Roger Machado is also described as an avid yoga practitioner, a lifelong vegetarian, and an advocate of healthy living, and he teaches private lessons and travels around the world teaching Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu seminars.
