Since 1976, Contessi Ballet School has offered instruction in classical ballet using the Vaganova and Cecchetti methods, as well as pointe, pas de deux, contemporary dance, character, tap, STOTT pilates, and more for children and adults of all ages. Instruction is provided in small, technique-focused classes, and class sizes are kept very small. Dancers are educated in the history of dance and classical ballet, and they are invited to perform in the annual Spring Showcase. The school typically holds two to three performances per year, including a spring production of a classical ballet and a full-length Nutcracker production open to dancers of all levels.
Contessi Ballet School is the North Bay's only non-profit studio and is the only non-profit dance studio operating in the North Bay under the organization North Bay Performing Arts Association. As a nonprofit, the school seeks support from the community to maintain its small-sized classes and specialized training, and its association and team of volunteers maintain the studio and put on productions. Board President Kathleen Mankowski leads the board. Many former and current professional dancers provide instruction across the different dance styles. Adult ballet classes are held on a drop-in basis, and adult dancers are given the opportunity to participate in performances. Families are invited to come do a free trial audition class to join the school.
For Unicorns and Magic Summer Dance Camp, snack and unicorn dress-up items are provided daily.
