Center of Gravity

Center of Gravity offers hands-on purposeful play, cooperation and negotiation, exploration and experimentation, and work with prototypes and design. The program uses a socio-constructivist inspired approach and is based on the belief that play is the highest form of research. It also reflects a belief that STEM, the arts, and design fuel innovation, and that multi-variant diversity and inclusion are important.

Center of Gravity’s mission is to provide a unique, inclusive space and place where creativity, community, and innovation are fostered for children, families, and teachers in early childhood and beyond. The program is built around relationship-based education and building strong relationships with families. It uses a developmentally, culturally, and linguistically responsive curriculum and emphasizes the importance of data through observation, documentation, and reflection, as well as the importance of a beautiful and functional environment. The community around Center of Gravity includes educators, families, researchers, and public-private community partners who are invested in creating a space and place for community, creativity, and innovation, and it focuses on cultivating children’s natural curiosity and instinct to research, understand, and re-create the world around them while exploring complex relationships and connections.
