Creative Play Center is a co-operative Preschool and Junior Kindergarten with over 80 years of experience. It offers three fun and interactive Preschool and Junior Kindergarten classes for children ages 2 to 4 years and older. The program follows a play-based philosophy and operates as a parent cooperative school, giving parents a chance to actively participate in and observe their child’s personal growth. The mission of Creative Play Center is to promote the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development of each child at their individual age levels, with an overlying concern for the child’s self-esteem. The program states goals that include offering activities and experiences appropriate for each child’s developmental level, motivating each child toward self-sufficiency and independence through success-oriented experiences, accepting and valuing each child, and meeting individual needs while fostering group awareness and consciousness of the rights of others.
Creative Play Center originated as “Jack and Jill Cooperative Nursery School,” which opened in September 1942 in a member’s home. The school was renamed “Creative Play Center” (CPC) in 1962, and in 1965 the school opened in Pleasant Hill. Today, CPC is celebrating 80 years of serving the children and families of Contra Costa County.
The staff at Creative Play Center are described as trained staff. The facility operates under Facility Number: 070200186. One parent testimonial describes the program by saying that on the first tour, it seemed to be a fun, creative, and safe environment, and that it turned out to be that and more.
