Creative Play Center

Creative Play Center is a co-operative Preschool and Junior Kindergarten that offers three fun and interactive classes for children ages 2 to 4 years and older. The program includes a play yard that is mentioned in most reviews, fresh egg hunts daily with chickens, and a unique indoor gymnastics structure called a Stegel.

Creative Play Center originated as “Jack and Jill Cooperative Nursery School,” which opened in September 1942 in a member’s home, was renamed “Creative Play Center” in 1962, and opened in Pleasant Hill in 1965. Today, it is celebrating 80 years of serving the children and families of Contra Costa County. The program is a parent cooperative school that provides an opportunity for parents to actively participate and observe their child’s personal growth, and it is staffed by trained staff. Creative Play Center states that it is dedicated to promoting the social, emotional, cognitive and physical development of each child at their individual age levels, with an overlying concern with each child’s self-esteem. One parent testimonial describes the first tour by saying, “…the first time I toured CPC, I thought to myself, ‘If I were a kid, this is exactly where I would want to go.
