About

Special Olympics Northern California Sports Programs offers training and competitions in 11 sports, unified schools programs, health and wellness activities, and leadership training. The programs use sports to jumpstart change and spark joy, and through the power of play, they unite people with and without intellectual disabilities to create a more connected community. The programs are free and run year-round for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, and they transform athletes into leaders while promoting acceptance, unity, and respect throughout Northern California.

• Ages: 0–18 years old

Special Olympics Northern California is dedicated to promoting unity and empowering children and adults with intellectual disabilities both on and off the field. The organization was created by the Joseph P. Kennedy, Jr. Foundation and is authorized and accredited by Special Olympics, Inc. for the benefit of persons with intellectual disabilities. There are many ways to be involved, including finding an upcoming fundraiser or special event. One athlete leader, Cristhian, says, “Special means extra extraordinary. When you hear the word Special — you’re elevated.”
