Discovery Camps Science Camp includes science activities and experiments in biology, food science, chemistry, astronomy, forensics, physics, and engineering, along with build projects, team challenges, and general arts and crafts. Campers take part in camp exercises that use activities from the college curriculum, learn teamwork, work with worksheets and handouts, and discover how science works. The program also includes time with animals, light outdoor activities, and extended care options that feature board games, reading, and team activities.
• Ages: 8–12 years old
• Schedule: Weekly sessions with camp days from 9:00am–4:00pm, plus extended care from 7:30–9:00am and 4:00–5:15pm, offered across eight weeks in June and July (including two short holiday weeks).
• Price: Week 1, 3, 5, 6, 7, and 8: $425 if enrolled by April 1, $450 if enrolled April 2–June 7, $475 if enrolled after June 7; Week 2 and 4 short weeks: $340 if enrolled by April 1, $360 if enrolled April 2–June 7, $380 if enrolled after June 7; a non-refundable, non-transferable $100 deposit per session per child is due at registration, with full payment due by the Monday start of camp, and the price includes extended care, daily lunch, an afternoon snack, and a downloadable group photo, with a $1 per minute charge after 5:15pm pick-up.
Science Camp is designed to provide a wealth of fun and to engage campers in learning and science at an early age. The daily schedule follows a set structure with morning arrival and care, four activity periods focused on science activities, experiments, challenges, and time with animals, plus lunch, snack, and clean-up. The program is guided by the Next Generation Science Standards, follows Cal Poly Pomona’s “Learn by Doing” motto, and is run as a tuition-for-service program based on confirmed enrollments and secured deposits. Campers are advised to get a good night’s sleep, eat a hearty breakfast, wear comfortable clothing suited to summer temperatures, bring tennis shoes for light walking, and carry a refillable water bottle.
