About
Discovery Camps Science Camp includes team challenges, team activities, and build projects, along with general arts and crafts, board games, and reading. Campers take part in activities in the sciences, including biology, food science, chemistry, astronomy, forensics, physics, and engineering, and they use worksheets and handouts to learn and discover how science works. The camp schedule also includes time with animals such as sheep, goats, pigs, rabbits, and miniature horses.

Science Camp is designed to provide a wealth of fun and to engage campers in learning and science at an early age. Science camps have undergone an upgrade, infusing camp exercises with activities used in the college curriculum, and are guided by the Next Generation Science Standards. Campers follow Cal Poly Pomona’s motto of “Learn by Doing,” and camp rooms are decorated each year to reflect the camp theme chosen by the camp counselors. Campers may spend time in the Rain Bird BioTrek Education Center, which includes an indoor rainforest learning center, an ethnobotany garden, and a Mesozoic garden that is home to iguanas, turtles, frogs, and a campus caiman. Science campers also have access to the Cal Poly Pomona Petting Farm, and light outdoor activities take place in a shaded green space with grass and trees. Center Pointe Dining Common provides lunch meals and can accommodate vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, lactose intolerant, and healthy balanced diet needs, and registration forms include space to list special dietary needs. Families are advised that campers should get a good night’s sleep, eat a hearty breakfast, wear comfortable clothing suited to summer temperatures, bring tennis shoes for walking to lunch, and carry a refillable water bottle. If a camper is not picked up by 5:15pm, Discovery Camp staff charge $1 per minute for extended care.
