The Invictus Krav Maga Kids program is described as a fun, encouraging alternative to traditional martial arts self defense classes for kids. Krav Maga for children in this program uses tools and techniques tailored for situations that commonly confront kids at school, on the playground, and in life. Kids classes stress three things: self-defense, fitness, and confidence, and by focusing on real world needs, kids are engaged in the learning process. Classes are offered for three age groups: Kids (ages 5–7), Youth (ages 8–10), and JR (ages 11–14).
The owner of Invictus Krav Maga is John Montalbano, who is also the California State Director for the International Krav Maga Federation (IKMF). John has been training in Krav Maga since 2012, enrolled in the instructor program in 2017, received his IKMF Civilian Instructor certification in 2018, and received his KIDS Instructor certification in 2021. In 2022, John was selected by the IKMF to train in the STAY AWAY! Women's Self-Defense Instructor course, and he is one of only three instructors certified in the entire state of California to teach this program. John is recognized as a Lead Civilian Instructor by the International Krav Maga Federation and is one of only two individuals west of the Mississippi to hold this title. Additional staff credentials include Fred Williams becoming a certified IKMF Krav Maga Instructor and Brian beginning Krav Maga training in 2015 under the instruction of IKMF Expert 2 Drew Goodwin.
Membership at Invictus Krav Maga requires a one-time $99 enrollment fee, and a uniform purchase is required. For families using the daily drop-in option at the hourly rate, a groin guard and uniform are required. Male students are not allowed to attend Women's Self Defense classes and seminars, but may give their free seat to any female they choose. The stated mission at Invictus is “Train As If Your Life Depends On It,” with a goal to enable law enforcement personnel to act and perform as efficiently as possible when coming across dangerous situations.
